Rice Fields

Rice has been farmed in the Sidemen Valley for hundreds of years, from the low lying fields along the river to the terraces that climb in regular steps up the steep sides of the surrounding mountains. As the rice grows it changes hue  from vibrant green to gold just before the harvest. Throughout the valley,  the wooded mountains are reflected in the newly planted fields which are tilled by hand used traditional  ploughs. After the harvest, the rice is dried and hulled before being stored in the Lumbung or granery within the village compounds.
